Hi Paul

Won't be at ECAWA unfortunately as we will be in QLD.

The set up we have is standard except it didn't work on Macs until a month ago and the software is still in beta. Not too many bugs - mainly a need to restart after a sleep. I have the latest beta officialy supported by Telstra but it is still buggy. OK though.

We have the wireless USB modem $299 with a 12 month plan minimum $35 a month but variable up and down at no cost and a 6db antenna 9$90) which gets a connection in the pale areas of the Telstra map.

I'm now on an $85 plan providing 1GB a month with free stuff such as news and weather if you go via Bigpond website. Interestingly Second Life is amongst the things that don't count towards your traffic cost.

So cool Bryn. A bit more simple than Onno Benchop's satellite dish on the roof from his WAMUG posts a few years back.

Missed you the day you were in DET a while back. If you are at ECAWA this year I'd love to see how you set this up. Loving Google Reader and Maps on the JasJam.

Looks like you are on a fabulous adventure. Have fun ;-)

A tad envious,
Paul

It is so amazing to be able to connect to the internet like this. I hope to travel later and this would be the ideal way to keep in touch with back home. It looks simple.
